May 16, 2003 Storm Chase |  Northeast TX HP storm w/brief meso

I didn't finish with work until mid-morning on the 15th, so the jaw-dropping setup in the TX Panhandle that day would be a miss for me given the distance involved. I was still interested in the progs for the 16th, so I packed up and left that afternoon with a general target of central OK. Though I did arrive in OKC around 11pm that evening, I chose against chasing the tornado warnings well to my west as I was fatigued and craving a motel and meal! The radar in my room showed linear cells to the west, so I felt a bit better about my decision. I believe it was Gary England that night who showed Jeff P.'s stunning video of a horizontal vortex directly over the road in front of him...that imagery alone made it even more difficult to fall asleep that night! The next day was still a decent setup, but the end result was not what I was hoping for.
