Highlights of the 2001 UWM Storm Chase  |  Team 2: May 21-26

Click here for a detailed text summary of what happened (more like what didn't!).

Overview: An unseasonably strong upper level trough and subsequent cold-core low from hell (image may be unsuitable for some storm chasers!) had invaded the Plains and Great Lakes region for most of the week and as a result locked up all of the good moisture into the Gulf.  Team 1 had capitalized on the severe Wx outbreak on Sunday, May 20 in OK, though we were less fortunate for our chase.  The return flow was slow and when it did occur, other atmospheric factors were against us.  Our highlights involved SVR low-topped convection in OK and two wall clouds produced later on that evening.  Nocturnal supercells developed later on in our chase period while in TX, though we were unable to document the structure.  Overall, this week stunk for chasing.  Sadly for us, the next week featured an atmospheric eruption of supercells and tornadoes once we had arrived home! (e.g. May 29 TX triple supercells, White Deer tornado, etc.)    :(
